How the radius is recovered

A sphere with radius rr has surface area A=4pir2A = 4pi r^2.

Solving that equation for rr gives r = sqrt{ rac{A}{4pi}}, which is the step this calculator applies.

The same radius immediately gives the diameter and the great-circle circumference.

Common uses

  • Recovering the size of a ball or tank from a known outer area.
  • Checking sphere dimensions in geometry homework or design work.
  • Moving between area-based formulas and linear dimensions.
