About Synthetic Division

Synthetic division is a simplified method for dividing a polynomial by a linear divisor of the form (x - a). It's a shorthand version of polynomial long division and is particularly useful for finding roots of polynomials and factoring them.

To use this calculator, enter the coefficients of the polynomial you wish to divide (the dividend), separated by commas. For example, for the polynomial \(x^3 - 3x^2 + 2x - 5\), you would enter "1, -3, 2, -5". Then, enter the root 'a' of the divisor (x - a). Click 'Calculate' to perform the synthetic division and view the quotient coefficients and the remainder. The steps of the synthetic division process are also displayed for clarity.

This tool is helpful for students and anyone needing to quickly divide polynomials, especially in algebra and calculus.
